Integrating People Pleasing Into Radical Authenticity.

Discussion of Untapped Potential

The 3rd Wednesday of every month, Karen Betten is a guest host on the

The Truth is Funny…Shift Happens with Colette Stefan Radio Show

Meet my guest Anne Marie McQuaid, founder/owner of Playing on Purpose.

Join Anne Marie McQuaid and I as we explore the insidious need to “please others” as an unrecognized pattern of destruction in the journey to express one’s authentic true nature. Motherhood often brings this experience to a charged explosion.

As a mother, I’ve been playing with how many of my actions often feel to fall in the category of “people pleasing”.

I have teenagers, a husband, an early adolescent, parents, brothers, a dog, a cat, clients, students, teachers, mentors and more in my life.

On any given day I can see them all as “needing” things, words or actions from me.  Somedays it is not a problem.  Other days it can be overwhelming and zap my energy.

On those days I hear the brilliant words of Tom Kenyon: I don’t know if you know,  but ” No” is a complete sentence.

Take a moment and let that sink in. How much energy would that save in a day if mothers ( really everyone) could just say no and be done.

Despite this awareness I often find myself building relentless rationalizations for why I cannot meet the perceived needs of someone I love or even just know.

If left unprocessed, this can express itself in a sudden outburst of frustration, yelling, and/or blame toward the people I love most. That then can lead down a path of feeling guilt; guilt of the most energy zapping form.

It can be quite frustrating to juggle the modern day demands of mothering (or any life for that matter) with the whisperings & calling of our desires, dreams, talents, gifts, explorations and/or expressions.

Are you desiring to engage more of your actions/ reactions from a place of Radical Authenticity?
